Captain by Lauren Rowe is another stand alone romance in the world created in her The Club series of books and also in another standalone, Ball Peen Hammer. Told in dual POV this is a ridiculously funny romance with awkward meet-cutes and complete misunderstandings and a little stalking too.
Ryan Morgan (AKA Rum Cake, Captain, etc) is ready to settle down. It's a shame that his older brother was 110% right when he said his now ex-girlfriend, Olivia, was a bunny-boiler. Ready to meet up with his soon to be new brother-in-law for drinks he meets Tessa instead. With some falsehoods right out the gate and a disastrous ending to the night, Ryan realizes the woman of his dreams has just slipped through his hands.
Tessa has put romance on the back-burner indefinitely. Her soccer-player cheating ex has pretty much ruined her trust of men and even her inclination to get back out there and date. Having just moved to Seattle, her best friend and flight-attendant decides to make a quick trip out to her and take her out for the night. What starts out as a fun night with a new, fun, identity for kicks and giggles, turns into the night she meets a man who truly speaks to her soul, until his girlfriend shows up calling her names...
These two are then thrown together after months apart in the most unlikely of circumstances and the awesomeness of the story grows from there. As previously stated, this was funny, endearing, and so much heart-wrenching fun to read. I heart Ryan so much with his rum and pirate tattoos. Enjoy!
